“But I give myself unto prayer.” – Psalm 109: V4
Beloved, you desire answered prayer, but this should not be prayed in no cold-hearted manner, but we should gave ourselves to throwing our whole soul and heart into it—straining every muscles. Don’t try to defend yourself when someone tells a lie about you; just take all lying lips, lying about you to your prayer-lips and placed your case into a higher court, pleading before the great King Himself, for justice on your behalf.
Prayer is the safest method of replying to words of hatred. Thus, and thus only, shall any of us speed to the throne of grace. As a shadow has no power because there is no substance in it, even so is our supplication, unless presented through Christ in agonising earnestness and vehement desire, is utterly ineffectual.
“Fervent prayer,” says an old divine, makes the gates of heaven fly open. The common fault with the most of us is our readiness to yield to distractions. Our thoughts go roving hither and thither, and we make little progress towards our desired end.
Continuance and perseverance are intended in the expression of our Prayer. Our holyclamour should continue until it brings down the blessing. Prayer must not be our chance work, but our daily business, our habit and vocation. So we must addict ourselves to prayer. We must be immersed in prayer, as in all other things we do, and so beloved, “pray without ceasing”.
Lord, teach us so to pray that we may be more and more prevalent in supplication. Amen!
